120hz mode does suck up more battery. One will feel more impact on battery life than this highly exaggerated "lag" from returning to 60hz mode. 120hz mode is added to the total cost of a phone, thereby making the final price more expensive. 120hz mode is a nice-to-have feature. It is not an essential feature.
